So there went another 365 days in which I scratched my bum 7300
times. Oh wait…it was a leap year. So 366 days and 7320 times scratched. In
all, it has been a pretty decent year considering all I wanted to do was sit,
laze around and scratch the occasional itch. Also, the odd newspaper or two that I read
provided good material to write this blog.
I begin reading from the sports section. Shifting
the focus to the sporting events of this year, the London Olympics was some
event. India won its highest ever medal tally this year. Later in the year, the
Indian Olympic Association also got suspended. It’s almost as if the ‘babus’ at
the IOA thought to themselves, “Oh no. We’ve won medals. What if more children
start taking up this sport? We might have to provide sporting gear such as
clothes and food for them. Our share might go down.” Then they received a call
from Dubai saying, “You can’t reduce the number of engineering students and
MBAs. At least, don’t promote sports in the South, especially Kerala, my native
state. ” IOA babus, “Yes. Also, giving into IOC’s demands is a sign of
weakness. We do not support this heinous and despicable act of progress.”
Speaking of progress, these metros and monorails that are
coming up in Mumbai have gone the way of my hair. They've come up in
patches but are falling down faster. Oh well, that’s just another thing
to look forward to in 2013.
Also excited to see which foreign brands come into India, with
this FDI thing happening. Okay, I know as much about it as I know about the Hadron
Collider and the God particle. And that is that there were some killer jokes
about them on FB. But what I do know is I wouldn't stand outside Starbucks in a
freakin’ queue. Really ‘whoever stood there’, uncool. The only reason to stand
outside that place in a QUEUE would be if you really needed to take a dump and
the only other place available was a ‘sauchalaya’ (public toilet). The coffee might be great and all, but
standing in queue..
Barack Obama won the presidential elections. Good for him. If
Mitt Romney had won, the year would have been much more entertaining with his
social gaffes providing raw material for stand up comedians.
You know who should be made ruler of the world? PSY. That
guy found a way to make Bollywood steps cool. Who would have thought,
pretending to shoot someone with two hands, jumping on one foot at a time like
your standing on coal, and then pretending to whirl the lasso of truth like Wonder
Woman would someday become a rage?
Everyone thought the Dark Knight Rises would be an awesome
movie. It was. However, it kind of missed the Heath Ledger touch. The
movie was a little disappointing. Though Anne Hathway was brilliant as
catwoman, Bale should have kept his mouth closed when in the mask.
Finally, the Delhi rape
case. There is absolutely nothing funny about this incident. It is disturbing
to know that guys would go to such extremes to slake their demented lust. It is
even more disturbing to hear politicians talk like they do. Perhaps they should be raped by gay men to sensitize them to the
issue of rape. When a politician asks the public ‘thik hai’ (all okay) when
clearly the entire country is not, the blinders on his eyes are visible. When
the President’s son says that girls who protest are painted and dented, it
shows their aversion to progress. Change is required not in the way girls dress,
but in the minds. Even suggesting it is the dress that provokes such stupidity, defines the backwardness of our patriarchal society. The Mayans predicted the
world would end…with ‘Nirbhaya’ Damini, India kinda did.
Change in the right direction is needed. So are people who can
bring about such change.

Too much info in the opening para :P, but otherwise well written!
ReplyDeleteLol...that's just the beginning...:P
